Not Long Now!
It isn’t long now until Nothing Technology showcases their brand new Nothing Phone 2 smartphone device on the 11th of July 2023. There has been a lot of speculation about what the phone will look like, with many rumours suggesting the phone will look almost the same. Despite all the rumours, I’m adamant Nothing will bring something unique to the table by building on the formula they started with the Nothing Phone 1.
My expectations are moderately high for their next phone but I do understand that creating a competitive phone comes at some sacrifice, in terms of features, to ensure the device can remain affordable and provide value for money. As a Nothing Technology fan, I couldn’t be any more excited for this new device, since I will be purchasing their next iteration of the device!
In the post below, I will be outlining which features I expect Nothing Phone 2 will provide while suggesting some improvements for these features. Nothing may have already made improvements already or not but only time will tell! Most of this post will be covering many discussion points, some of which may not be accurate to what Nothing has planned to announce, this is merely for fun.
Nothing Phone 2 Features
Latest CPU + More RAM
What we already know is that the Nothing Phone 2 is that it’s coming with the latest Snapdragon CPU, a huge leap in terms of performance from the Nothing Phone 1. Coupled with some added RAM to the device, could make this phone compatible with high-performance gaming, which could make this a phone for avid mobile gamers and power users who might want to use it for productivity purposes.
It will be interesting to see the benchmarks for their latest device to see what it could offer for users in terms of performance. A change in CPU might mean a need for more cooling options built into the design to avoid it overheating and getting too hot in your hands. While we don’t know how this will impact the device, I’m sure Nothing has the right people designing these phones so as not to cause too many issues on release.
Nothing OS 2.0
Nothing OS was a little buggy when it first arrived but since then the OS has gone through interactions of improvements to make it better. The stock experience it gives is great and I hope Nothing can continue to keep it that way while adding new features to make the overall experience better.
An improvement I would like to see is better customisation, especially when it comes to the dropdown bar/tray. The tray currently has some very large buttons which take up the majority of space. All I want is to be able to customise it more by making the buttons a bit smaller and being able to swap these out with buttons I will use.
Better Camera?
One of the big rumours is that the Nothing Phone 2 will be similar to the Nothing Phone 1 in terms of design, including a similar camera too. The first phone offered a decent camera, though falls short when compared to the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google who offer great quality cameras and camera software with their phones.
If Nothing wants to compete with the big brands, there needs to be a better camera which can take excellent photos, to make them even more social media-worthy. That said, the Nothing Phone 1 camera offers good enough performance to get the job done for Instagram but could it be better? We just have to wait and see what pictures can be taken on the 11th of July (if they do show this off).
Brand New Cable
A brand-new style of cable is great to see, even if it’s just a simple transparent design. The logo looks really good on the design, with “nothing” shown for the whole world to see. When paired with the great specs of the Nothing Phone 2, this will be a great addition to their already excellent selection of products.

Perhaps this new cable will have a unique feature that will separate it from the rest i.e. a charge progress indicator that increases as the phone reaches 100% and better support of higher charge support (we will cover that under the better battery section!).
What I do like about this cable is the iconic Nothing design, displaying great craftsmanship and simplistic design. The testing this cable went through may also indicate that these cables are designed to last longer, which could be considered environmental since you won’t need to buy a new one for a while.
Better Battery
Battery Share 2.0?
Nothing Phone 1 offered the ability to share battery charge wirelessly with phones and headphones that supported wireless charging. I used this function often when charging up my Nothing buds after the battery went low, which was a lifesaver, especially when away from an outlet.
A drawback to battery share was the battery drain caused because of battery sharing. When I used this feature during the day, I had to sacrifice my current battery life to keep my earbuds charged. While this is a minor issue, I feel this will be eliminated with a much bigger and better battery for the Nothing Phone 2.
I’d love to see this feature continue into their next device and offer more watt support to enable faster charging of other electronics using this feature. Another improvement for Battery Share 2.0 could be better cooling for this, as often my phone became hot while battery sharing, which is great in winter but awful for this time of year, given how warm it is!
Higher Support for 33+ Watts?
One thing I felt was missing from Nothing 1, was support for higher watts when it comes to charging. What I loved from the OnePlus days, was the fact they kept pushing for higher-watt support. The design of the cable for the OnePlus 3T I got first was much thicker than a standard cable, which helped charging be much faster.
Hopefully, the Nothing Phone 2 will be able to provide 60 watts at least for their new phone or at least something a little faster than 33 watts, even if it means a battery that doesn’t last as long… It’s not to say that 30- watts does the job because I’ve been using the same 30-watt charger for years!
Glyph Lighting Returns in Style
Making yet another comeback is the glyph interface, which comes back with even more style than ever! As displayed on the Nothing Twitter page, you can customise and mix with different Swedish House Mafia sounds to create your ringtone. I can’t wait to see how this works on my Nothing Phone 1 when the update arrives but just as excited to see how this will work on the Nothing Phone 2 thanks to its upgraded interface.
Upgraded Design
Finally, the best until last… The design! There have been a lot of rumours about the Nothing Phone 2 design as mentioned in the introduction. I’m hoping that Nothing will provide something new for the Nothing Phone 2 while building on the already great design features with the Nothing Phone 1, so why reinvent the wheel? Leaks so far have been denied by Carl Pei so maybe we should be expecting something a bit more unique and modern for the Nothing Phone 2.
While I would love a completely new design for the Nothing Phone 2, I would be just as happy with something that looks similar but with improved features, such as water protection and better screen protection, which might explain why there was a Kraken in one of their tweets. It’s also important to note that Nothing won the red dot awards for their unique design for Nothing 1, showcasing their ability to create something that looks unique and captivating!

Pricing?
Before buying a new phone, you always need to know the price, especially if it’s a premium device. Online sources suggest the phone to be around £729 the starting for the Nothing Phone 2, which is a lot more compared to the Nothing Phone 1 price of £399. The price suggests there will be a lot more features in the Nothing Phone 2 which is something I’d be keen to learn more about on the 11th of July.
Countdown Begins
While we wait in anticipation for the Nothing Phone 2, there will be lots of excitement and more features being showcased. Hopefully, when Nothing announces the Nothing Phone 2, it will have all the features we have dreamed of, including some mentioned in today’s post!
Will the phone be a great sequel to the great design and value of the Nothing Phone 1? Or will it be able to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung? In the meantime, we will have to wait and see but feel free to discuss this in the comments below!
